Omnia eCommerce is the absolute definition of SAP’s current mantra where the concept of ‘Run Simple’ is the DNA of the product.
“If we simplify everything, we can do anything. SAP helps you streamline your processes, so you have the agility to create new growth opportunities for your business with the world’s most innovative platform.”

My opening question:
If SAP ERP could deliver modern cutting edge browser experiences and SAP could hold the enriched data that is required for an eCommerce experience, would anyone ever use a platform outside of SAP to deliver their web based engagement?
The cost of integration is not just in today’s problems but it is exacerbated into the future. Any integration at all is none value added, it creates complexity throughout the business process and constrains future projects with complicated considerations, when change and innovation is required. Many commerce vendors will play this effort down and some are closer than others to a single stack solution, but ultimately if there is more than one database with more than one webserver, then the solution is not deemed to be single stack. So if there was an SAP ERP single stack commerce solution then nobody in their right mind would ever consider going to the effort or expense of integrating a 3rd party commerce platform to their SAP back-end.
A single stack solution is delivered on one architecture, on one database with a single ERP process across all events and processes. This is the true meaning of a single stack solution.
Omnia Commerce is the only solution in the world that is a single stack technology for SAP eCommerce. Omnia delivers a cutting edge modern
platform with unlimited enriched data directly from your SAP ERP platform. If an SAP commerce vendor suggests they are a single stack solution, they are not. They will be hiding behind the suggestion that you only need the business process in SAP and everything else is external. Omnia is the only truly single stack solution.
What does this mean for Omnia customers?
We have removed all duplication and significant complication;
Holding the enriched data within SAP means that not only do end users have access to the incredible data that pertains to a material in SAP, but Omnia also moves all that data into a single SAP database. This means that the data is then readily available throughout any system, application or interface you want. Take for example the
Omnia Call Centre application
which has all of the enriched commerce data which is available to internal or external users, in one location. This methodology ensures absolute consistency across any and all Omnia touchpoints.
Removing all external platforms means that Omnia customers only have one set of logic to deal with. One example would be a product database where all eCommerce systems currently replicate data from and to SAP. If you create a new material, you have to create that material in the external system too and attach all none SAP data to it in a separate system. This does not just stop at material creation and amendment, but effects variant configuration for complex products. SAP’s Variant Configuration is world class, and replicating it within an external eCommerce platform boggles the mind.
By having two systems you have huge amounts of duplicate effort. This effort is not just in balancing the previous two topics but also needs to be considered for the security, patches and interfaces you need to keep maintained. How many analysts do you need to consider the knock on effects which making changes on one system has on the other?
By only having one system to consider, we have removed considerable effort from your security teams and created greater piece of mind that your platform for all your operations and touchpoints are secure. All systems need patching regularly and by having more than one platform you not only duplicate effort in delivering the patch, but you significantly impact regression testing.
Security: The impact on security is significant by the sheer fact that companies employ different solutions and integrate them. The interoperable nature presents not just security holes within any individual system but can also create flaws unknown to both platforms through middleware and over exposure of systems. All businesses have to ask themselves if they feel bullet proof from attackers when they have so many platforms and software components in place.
Hardware and infrastructure:
By delivering the Omnia solution within the SAP Netweaver application layer, there is no further investment in hardware, networks or security. With Omnia you can divert what would normally be considerable infrastructure investment into ensuring you have enterprise class resilience and scalability in SAP and the chosen hardware that is already in place.
Omnia removes the need to have crossed or duplicated support. SAP customers buy into support agreements for SAP but the myriad of potential commerce technologies invariably creates multiple contracts for middleware. Omnia removes this completely as you have already invested in SAP and the support necessary to run it.
Consider the impact on none SAP licencing in delivering a platform outside of SAP. You could need a considerable number of servers and applications for delivering the integration and synchronisations required to keep a 3rd party commerce platform up to date. May we also point out that whatever the solution is, whether inside or outside SAP, there is an SAP licence requirement. No-one wants to be in an unlicensed negotiation with SAP. We will help in those discussions to present a licence that is commercially viable for your usage of the SAP system.
Omnia can take any statement from SAP’s current marketing on ‘Run Simple’ and it will apply more to Omnia than any other solution.
“Simple is changing the way we live and work. Learn what’s in store for the future of technology, and how conquering complex technological challenges will help you reduce costs and give you time to focus on innovation.”
